This is a picture of My Granny and Grandpa and their 10 children ~my dear Mum is in the top row on the right the one wearing that Hat ~
My Auntie Violet is still alive and I am going to see her so she can tell me all the names of the Children ~ I can only guess as I was not alive when they were young ~
I love this picture and my Granny Gee sitting in the middle with the child on her knee ~ my Sister Joy and I always visited her Sunday mornings and she would always give us a slice of seed cake which we ate on the way home ~ we both hated the seeds in the cake and would pick them out ~ and there were hundreds of them ~ and they tasted of aniseed ~ can still taste them today :o) and they were horrible
:o( there were more seed than cake but we must have been hungry because we always finished it before we got home ~
I do not remember my Grandad Gee he died before I was born but oh my Gosh he does look like one of my five brothers ~ and my Borther Dennis would agree with me ~ as they look so alike ~

What a priceless picture. I do hope your able to learn the names of the rest of the kids. Anise seeds do taste like a bitter licorice. A small bit sweetens gravies and stuffing. I can't imagine a bread full of them. (Hugs)Indigo

I have never heard of seed cake. LOL about spitting the seeds out. It's great that you have someone still around that you can get the names from. I love looking back at photos like this one.

that picture is a treasure for sure. I hope you get all the names straight with your aunt. Both my maternal and paternal grandparents each had 10 children but there were not any family pictures taken that I've ever seen.

What a step back into the past Ally, and your aunt still going. Seed cake was quite popular then, not my favourite was more of a fruit cake girl. thanks for sharing with us.

Wonderful old picture Ally and wonderful memories. I can just see you picking the seeds out of your cake! I love aniseed so I probably would have relished every biteful!

Loved the picture of your Mom and her family. Yes, they sure had large families back then, compared to now. Both of my parents had large ones, too. Good luck with the names - my Mom still makes a "poppy seed" cake, but I've never had one with anise seed in it, although I do like black licorice. Yum!

This is a great photograph, Ally! I guess we both come from prolific families. My great-grandmother had twelve children!

I love old photo's, Ally. It just amazes me at the number of children they had and how properly dressed all of them were.

LOL at the seed cake. My grandma made anise seed cake and poppy seed cake. I liked the poppy seed but the anise was so strong. xx

Allways love your blog, and was pleased to see this wonderful old photograph, my family has done a great deal of family research and have managed to trace back to 1506, have found many cousins and aunts that we knew nothing about( my father spent most of his young years in Dr Barnados),it has been so interesting and so rewarding,so I wish you well in finding names for all in your picture

I enjoyed seeing the photo of your family. Having all your memories written down for future generation's will be great when the photo passes to them. I am sorry to read of your friend having been in the car wreck. Salty and I have been staying warm with all the wood from my yard and surrounding land cut from this past summer. I have a new post on my Blogger/journal. mark
